I was told today that my writings were an inspiration and that this reader was moved to get support for their own battle with depression after reading about mine. That, to me, is the biggest compliment that I could have received. My goal when I started writing this blog in the beginning of this year was not only to help myself recovery, but to speak openly and candidly about mental illness.
Over the past month, I have been given the pleasure of talking to people from around the globe and I have listened to their stories of mental illness. My readers have shared countless pictures, videos, tips, and tricks and I have taken each one to heart.
Today, I am grateful for every single one of you who has shared something with me, for each one of you who has returned day after day to read my little musings, and for those of you who continue to push me towards something that I feel I have a larger part in.
The video posted below was shared with me today by a wonderful friend. I cried watching it. I know I’ll watch it at least ten more times before I go to sleep tonight. This man has made a video putting himself out there for the entire world to see in much the same way I have. I have such great respect for him as he pushes society to see that there does not have to be a stigma associated with Mental Illness.
I urge you to do your part. Share this video. Share this blog. If you need someone to talk to, even if we have never spoken before, send me an email and we can chat. We can all get through this together. Mental illness is so much bigger than just one person, but together, we can help break the silence and end the stigma.
